United Way serves people in need in virtually every community and neighborhood in southwestern Pennsylvania. We are there for families and individuals struggling financially. Single parent households and veterans. Children looking to succeed in school and seniors struggling to live independently without fear. These are people who may have different abilities, but who share the same aspirations as we all do for a more fulfilling life.
The best, most effective vehicle to create meaningful change for our most vulnerable populations is by donating
to United Way’s Impact Fund. The Impact Fund allows us to take a holistic approach to improving lives by:
We help people access critical human necessities such as shelter, safety and food. These hardships disproportionately affect people of color and widen our community’s racial divide. For many families, all it takes is a sudden job loss or an unexpected medical expense for things to spiral into long-term financial instability and despair. Across our region, United Way responds to people’s critical needs when they don’t know where else to turn.
When you support Meeting Basic Needs, your donation helps:
Provide access to food, shelter and clothing
Ensure access to heat, water and electricity
Provide services such as transportation for older people as well as coaching and services to keep them connected
Fund home repairs and modifications to make homes safer and more accessible for people with disabilities and seniors
Provide physical and emotional care for women and their families who are victims of domestic violence
Provide in-home support so people with disabilities can avoid homelessness or institutionalization
For many families, just making ends meet every month can feel overwhelming. United Way helps create a path to a more financially secure future with practical tools such as access to childcare and budget planning. Along with our community partners, we work to remove barriers for people of all abilities to secure meaningful employment; help young mothers adjust to life as a parent; assist older adults so they can live independently; and help veterans navigate their return to civilian life after serving our country.
When you support Moving to Financial Stability, your donation helps:
Improve employment opportunities for people regardless of their gender, race or abiity
Families and individuals under a certain income prepare their taxes and receive the money they have earned
Connect veterans to adapt and find opportunities as they transition to civilian life
Women achieve a basic guaranteed income
Every child should have the opportunity to learn and succeed. But while many children grow up with support and structure in their lives, not every child is as fortunate. United Way works to address disparities in educational and social opportunities that often fall along racial lines. We’re there to help the daughter of a working single mother be school-ready going into kindergarten, as well as the teen who needs a safe space after school and a positive role model to help him reach his potential, earn a diploma and plan a career.
When you support Building for Success in School and Life, your donation helps:
Children be prepared to start school with confidence
Establish positive relationships with strong role models
Encourage attendance through positive reinforcement
Advocate strongly for racial equity and systemic change children of color have an equal opportunity for success
