I’m sure just about everyone knows a woman who has encountered financial struggles due to an unexpected set-back. You know the life events we’re talking about: job loss, extraordinary health care expenses, caregiving responsibilities, separation, divorce, domestic violence – you could probably add to this list. If you could join others helping women in these tough situations, would you?
When financially challenging situations arise, women who have never before sought help are left vulnerable, at-risk of losing their home, unable to provide for their children, and hopeless. This vulnerability is not surprising given that 46% of Americans report not having enough money in savings to cover a $400 emergency cost.
What if there were some great community efforts to help these women and their children, and you could get involved? The potential outcome for many women facing difficult life events calls on us to respond with compassion – a compassion that inspired United Way of Southwestern PA’s Women’s Leadership Council to create United for Women, which helped 2,299 women in 2017.
Thousands of donors are making a difference through United for Women, which connects women like the ones you know and love to resources such as monetary support to lessen crises and turn dire situations into manageable ones, and programs to equip them with the necessary skills to handle tough problems.
As an issue that touches all of us somehow, either personally, or by affecting women we care about, we can do something. Together, we can create a brighter, more secure future for women.
