Teaching adults how to discuss healthy relationships with teens.
During our teenage years, we evolve into the people we’ll be for the rest of our lives. It’s a critical time to learn what it means to be in a healthy relationship and develop positive behaviors and decision-making skills. But navigating these complex issues and conversations with the teens in our lives can be challenging and even overwhelming.
In response, United Way’s Southwest PA Says No More initiative has introduced a new interactive workshop, Dating Matters: Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention for Youth Serving Professionals. The in-person or one-hour online training session helps adults learn how to teach 11- to- 14-year-olds healthy relationship skills before they start dating and reduce behaviors that increase the risk for dating violence, like substance abuse and sexual risk-taking.
Dating Matters is an evidence-based teen dating violence prevention model developed by the CDC that includes prevention strategies for individuals, peers, families, schools, and neighborhoods. It’s free and open to the public. Continuing Education Units (CEU) are available.
