Nine years and counting: United Way continues to show community impact with another four-star rating from Charity Navigator

When it comes to helping communities address their greatest challenges, there aren’t many local nonprofits that rise to the level of United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania. In the past year alone, more than half a million people across the region benefited from United Way’s work. This is why we don’t just support the organization; we stepped up to co-chair this year’s United Way campaign.

As business leaders, we understand the importance of transparency, fiscal responsibility, and community support. United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania exemplifies all of these. Recently, Charity Navigator, the leading charity evaluator in America, gave the organization a four-star rating the ninth consecutive year based on strong financial health, accountability, and results. This is a substantial accomplishment. United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania is the only human services organization in the region to receive four stars for the past nine years, and only 3% of nonprofits that Charity Navigator evaluates nationwide have received nine or more consecutive four-star ratings.

This latest achievement demonstrates United Way’s consistent and comprehensive approach to giving back to local communities and improving the lives of those who are struggling. Since becoming co-chairs for 2019, we’ve been fortunate to see firsthand how committed United Way is to building and enhancing programs that improve the lives of children, seniors, people with disabilities, and financially struggling families.

With 2019 winding down, it’s an ideal time for us to think back on the past year, express gratitude for the opportunity to serve as co-chairs, and look forward to the year ahead. As a member of the healthcare industry, we understand the value of creating and nurturing healthy communities. United Way plays a significant role in improving the well-being of our region by helping people live better lives. It’s a great privilege to help fulfill that vital mission, and to witness first-hand the generous nature of southwestern Pennsylvanians.
