William (BJ) & Christine Blose

Supporting the community they love with United Way

Everyone who lives in this community benefits either directly or indirectly from United Way, whether they know it or not.”

BJ and Christine Blose, both partners at KPMG, LLP and United Way Tocqueville Society members, see the value in giving back to their community. With a love for Pittsburgh, they feel a deep responsibility to give back and help those in need.

“We have both been blessed with opportunity and success in our lives and in our careers,” BJ explained. “Our hope is to provide assistance to those who need help both young and old.”

They feel like their work through United Way is one big way they are achieving this goal. “We got involved with United Way through our employment at KPMG. We each gave as part of our workplace giving campaign since the beginning of our careers more than 17 years ago,” BJ said.

Their involvement with the organization expanded in recent years when they joined the Tocqueville society and even more-so when BJ joined the Tocqueville Society Emerging Leaders Committee in 2015.

With every experience, BJ and Christine are able to see the impact their dollars and time are having on their community. Recently, BJ visited the PA 2-1-1 Southwest call center. “I was astonished to see how one operator managed multiple requests simultaneously with patience and a passion to get people help. At the end of the conversation, I learned that she herself was once a homeless mother who used the service in her time of need. She was living proof that United Way helps people turn their lives around,” BJ shared.

BJ and Christine see the impact through other volunteer activities and experiences and hope more people interested in giving back will take the time to learn about everything United Way has to offer to the community. “I wish others knew the quality of United Way’s leadership—both inside United Way’s offices, and in the professionals that volunteer their time with United Way. The experience, intellect, passion, and strength of these people is extraordinary,” BJ explained.

For BJ and Christine, they are able to fulfill their philanthropic wishes through United Way’s work. They feel confident in their gifts of treasure, knowing they are being used to solve the community’s biggest problems. They encourage others to take the time to learn about the impact they can make by joining with United Way.

“If you are looking for a way to feel a greater sense of community and personal connection through your charitable giving, there is no organization that can make you feel more connected than the Tocqueville Society,” BJ said.
