OUR IMPACT AREAS
By supporting United Way’s Impact Fund, you help deliver critical assistance and change the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors by meeting basic needs, moving toward financial stability and building success in school and life.
Connecting people at times of crisis with immediate, essential human needs such as shelter, safety and food.
Helping working families and individuals overcome short-term instability and create a path to a more financially secure future.
Addressing disparities in educational opportunities from early childhood through school years and helping young people become successful adults.
If you’re looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity that offers real financial relief to low-income workers and families, consider becoming a Free Tax Prep volunteer. United Way’s free tax prep program, run in collaboration with Just Harvest and other partner agencies, last year saved taxpayers $2 million in tax preparation fees and also generated $10.6 million in refunds. Our 280 volunteers prepared nearly 8,000 returns. As a volunteer greeter or tax preparer, you’ll help working families who can use their refunds to pay for basics like food, housing and utilities. As a tax prep hero, you’ll change lives and make an immediate difference by helping low-income workers maximize their return while you learn new skills and have a little fun! The commitment is short-term, roughly three to five hours each week during tax season. New preparers complete 15 hours of free training in January. Greeters complete three hours of training. Choose day, evening or weekend volunteer hours and select from 20+ sites across Allegheny, Fayette, Green, Washington and Westmoreland counties. It’s a great way to make a difference where you live and work. Continuing education credits are available for volunteers. Learn more and sign up at www.SWPAfreetaxes.org

A dedicated leader, mother, philanthropist and so much more, Sara has found the perfect place to share her talents and ideas with her community to create change.
