United Way recognizes that time off work is important in maintaining a healthy work/life balance, as well as an integral part in remaining productive and focused in your career. Whether it’s for a family vacation, holiday, unforeseen sick day, or some well deserved R&R, United Way is committed to accommodating each of our employees in their life outside of the office. In addition to our holiday program, we also offer generous vacation and personal time.

Vacation Days

New employee hired after June 30 | 1 week

New employee hired before July 1 | 2 weeks

1-10 full calendar years | 3 weeks

11-19 full calendar years | 4 weeks

20+ full calendar years | 5 weeks

Personal Days

Personal days are earned after the completion of six months of employment.  On the first day of the seventh month, employees will be credited with (5) earned personal days and begin to earn a half day for every two pay periods the employee works.  Employees cannot accumulate more than twenty-five (25) days.


UWSWPA observes most of the federal holidays.  Each employee is provided with a listing of holiday closings.


Establishing the financial security that comes with a worry free retirement can add substantially to the quality of life today.  In a market where pension plans are being reduced or eliminated, the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania provides both a defined contribution plan AND a defined benefit plan to every employee.  Our pension savings plan includes an employer match of up to 4% of your compensation during the plan year.  In addition each employee is enrolled in our defined benefit pension plan which provides a monthly payment to each retiree for life.
