WHO YOU HELP

Forming reading relationships to improve childhood literacy.

Kids reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are four times more likely to graduate high school. Over the next three years, United Way’s 100,000 Books Campaign seeks to increase reading skills in children to prepare them for school so they can achieve academic success.

United Way’s 100,000 Books Campaign will create supportive connections between adult volunteers and at-risk kids to improve the reading skills of children in our neighborhoods. The program seeks to give kids better access to quality books and to reinforce the importance of building early literacy skills for parents and caregivers. Ultimately, early literacy intervention will improve graduation rates, resulting in greater independence for these kids in the long term.

You can help by raising awareness and encouraging friends and family to support the cause, or by gathering books and a team of volunteer readers to foster lasting reading relationships with early learners.
