While Tara was in high school she wasn’t sure that college was going to be a possibility for her financially. Then she discovered the Neighborhood Learning Alliance (NLA), funded by United Way. NLA supports students in high school struggling with housing insecurity and financial assistance through a college program called “High School U”.
“It’s not just donating money. You can donate your time. You can help spread the word. I think meeting other women, of all ages, that care about the community is just a big deal. It is empowering to see the difference we can make, the ideas that we come up with and the friendships that have been formed.”
As Corporate Engagement Manager at United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Megan acts as a liaison between corporate companies that want to give back and the community in need of services. By coordinating volunteer opportunities, special events and more, she helps workplace campaigns run smoothly.
As Corporate Relations Manager, Terri manages a variety of business partners and oversees the Women’s Leadership Council work in Westmoreland and Fayette counties.

A favorite memory of mine is being at one of the WLC networking soirees with a mix of old friends and new acquaintances. We were talking about other recent volunteering events through the United Way as well as some of the professional and social events, and just realizing the vast network of good that is done all the time through United Way.
As Accounts Payable Specialist, Dai performs weekly vendor payments, communicates with partners to maintain up-to-date payment information, creates instructions for accounting processes and much more. A typical day could include all of these responsibilities plus any accounting tasks that come up. Whatever happens, she’s ready for it.
